Promoting recruitment standards for Trainee Train Drivers

Advocating professional standards since 1995.

The Rail Assessment Centre Forum (RACF) is a group of assessment centre representatives who have undertaken to follow the railway group standard (RIS-3751-TOM) and share good practice when assessing individuals for the role of Trainee Train Driver. RACF members:

  • promote best practice and consistency in relation to the psychometric assessment of prospective train drivers in the United Kingdom, thereby contributing to ensuring the safety and safe operation of trains on the rail network in the United Kingdom;

  • provide a forum for discussions among its Members concerning best practices in relation to the psychometric assessment of prospective train drivers;

  • confirm that Members' assessment centres conduct psychometric assessments on prospective train drivers to levels that meet or exceed the National Standard; and

  • maintain, update and share relevant information relating to the psychometric assessment of prospective train drivers between Members including in relation to the Database.

The RACF will carry out its functions in a transparent and non-discriminatory way and, to the extent appropriate having regard to the commercial sensitivity of information, shall encourage and foster co-operation between rail industry parties to achieve the purposes of the RACF.

Registered Assessment Centres

 

Registered centres have individual Assessors that have been trained to the highest standard to undertake train driver recruitment within the UK. This includes registration with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and Office of Rail & Road (ORR) to deliver a range of psychometric tests and a structured interview.


Professional Advice

 

The RACF can provide professional advice to railway undertakings and other professional bodies within the rail industry on it’s work and experiences of promoting and maintaining high standards required for the recruitment of trainee train drivers.
